  A Year of Thanks

Through all we’ve been through this past year, I take time to reflect on the blessing and positivities I’ve received.

I start with the highest and most grateful person who gives me everything I have. I am thankful for God and all the opportunities he has given me and all the people he’s put in my life to support and push me to my goals. I am also thankful for the obstacles he put in my way as I cannot grow without struggle and failure. I have so many blessings and I appreciate each and every one of those blessings.

I am blessed to have such supportive parents who push me to be who I am and strive to be great in everything I do. My mom makes sure I’m everywhere I need to be on time and is always there to pick me up when I’m done and always helps me with anything I need. To my dad who pushes me on and off the basketball court to be an intelligent and respectful person. I can never forget waking up at 5:30 every day and going to the YMCA to work out and help me become a better basketball player and rushing home to go back to school by 8. I am forever grateful for the two people that are always by my side no matter what and the unconditional love they give me that makes me feel like I can do anything I put my mind to.

I am blessed to have had such wonderful grandparents. I have two amazing and strong grandmothers who inspire me every day. Although I did not meet one of my grandfathers I am grateful for him for giving me, my dad.  To my best friend in heaven, I am so grateful for all the memories I had with my Grandpa. Staying all day until 9:30pm at my grandparents, running around, watching cartoons. When you passed I grieved and I learned and I grew at just 11 years old to realize that you weren’t gone but you were just in a better place. I learned many lessons I will never forget and even ones I don’t yet understand yet, I will hope to learn and teach to my children in the future.

I am blessed to have friends and teammates who are just supportive and like family to me. My friends keep me in line and are always there for me when I need them. My teammates are my brothers on and off the basketball court and we have each other’s back through it all. I am so grateful to have been able to play with this team for 3 years now at RSJ because we have grown and struggled together and it’s only made us stronger than we ever knew we could be.

Lastly, I am blessed to have a stunning spirited sunset wake me up every morning and a magnificent marbled moon as I go to sleep

  1. Jaden, I like how you started off your piece by mentioning how you are thankful for your struggles and obstacles that have made you stronger and helped you grow. I also was intrigued by your use of alliteration when you said, “Lastly, I am blessed to have a stunning spirited sunset wake me up every morning and a magnificent marbled moon as I go to sleep” Something else that stood out to me was your anecdote which highlighted the support your parents give you.
